This calculator was designed to help our San Diego solar clients to virtually determine the cost of a solar system.
Upon completion of this calculator, you will have a good idea of what a solar system costs from a BBB A+ Accredited and 5-star rated California licensed solar electrical contractor with 1000's of systems installed.
Our system costs feature premium solar panels with panel level monitoring.
All systems have a 10-year installation and roof warranty. Our manufacturers' warranties range from 10 to 25 years. We also offer a Power Purchase Agreement from a Third Party which offers a 25 year warranty and battery replacement if necessary.
Special electrical and roofing costs are not included in the estimate. Your site survey will determine if any of these costs apply.
Upon completion of the form we will contact you to see if you are interested on a formal quote. Please let us know if you are not interested in a formal quote.
Let's begin!
Most power bills include gas, so break out just the electric portion.

Suggested Number Panels
Add more panels if you plan on adding new loads: Pool - 4, Electric Car - 6, AC - At least 8!
With solar, you "Own Your Power" for much less than purchasing from the power company. It's okay to add a few more panels if you think you will need them in the future. Better safe than sorry. No one ever complains they have too many.
Each panel requires approximately 22 square feet of roof space. We will carefully lay out your system using state of the art software to optimize your production and make sure you have a custom solar system to meet your individual needs.
Asphalt or composition shingle (comp) is your basic roof. Most older homes and some newer homes have a comp roof. Concrete tile is very common for tract housing. Many custom homes in San Diego have clay S tile. The cost is more for clay S tile because we typically bring in a roofer to assist in the installation. Flat roofs are rare.
This calculator was designed for roof-mounted systems. Contact us for priority pricing if you want a ground-mounted system.
Here's the disclaimer to make the lawyers happy.
The San Diego Solar Calculator by Jamar Power Systems is a free self-help tool to help our potential clients determine if solar power is a viable option to help reduce their energy expenses.
The results are hypothetical and for illustrative purposes only. We do not guarantee the accuracy or applicability to your circumstances. All calculations in this report rely on user input data. The results are not a formal quote, an offer of a loan, do not reflect any guarantee of expected savings or tax advantages.
Jamar Power Systems requires, per standard industry practice, a site survey, a formal quote, sign off of the California Solar Consumer Protection Guide, and a solar home improvement contract per California law before proceeding with a solar project.
The calculator is not intended to provide investment, legal, tax, or accounting advice. We recommend you consult your trusted financial advisor for additional information and advice.
With that said here are your results:
Federal tax credits are for Federal taxpayers. If you don't pay Federal Taxes select the Higher Loan Payment or Power Purchase Agreement financing options.
Compare to San Diego's average residential rate of $0.39 per kWh. Peak rates in San Diego are as high as $0.68 per kWh. Most leases and PPAs start at $0.25 per kWh.
We believe you should "Own Your Power" because it offers the lowest cost per kilowatt-hour (kWh).
We offer several financing offerings if you choose not to pay cash for your solar system. All are $0 down with a fixed monthly payment. With a loan you own the system, with a PPA a third party owns the system.
We ask this because it is not a good idea to put a solar system on an old roof. Don't worry if you have an old roof or just don't know. We will assess it, let you know if we see a problem, and if it will impact the cost.
We ask this to determine if your panel is adequate for a solar system. Older homes typically have 100 or 125 amps. All newer homes have at least 200 amps. It's not a problem if your panel is too small. We are electricians and offer several options to fix it. We will let you know if it will impact the cost.
Adding a battery increases the cost of your solar system, but it allows you to store excess solar power generated during times when the rates are low and use it during peak power times when the rates are high. Under the current utility tariff it is highly recommended you add a battery to your solar system. We use software to pull your usage history to determine the perfect battery for your residence so don't offer pricing in the this calculator.
